Chur, The oldest city in switzerland

Visit Chur's old town centre with its small boutiques and historic buildings. Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur. The museum presents an impressive collection of art from Graubünden, from classical modernism to contemporary art, with works by artists such as Giovanni Segantini, Alberto Giacometti and Not Vital. The museum combines the historic architecture of the Villa Planta with a modern extension and offers changing exhibitions and a varied cultural programme.

Viamala gorge

The Viamala is legendary. An impressive natural monument with rock faces up to 300 metres high, which are only a few metres apart at the narrowest points. The play of colours of the water, the whirlpools and the rock formations leave a strong impression of natural beauty. You can explore the fascinating rock formations and historic bridges via steps and footbridges, while information boards provide fascinating insights into the history of this once feared pass road.

rhine gorge (ruinaulta)

The Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta), also known as the ‘Swiss Grand Canyon’, is one of Switzerland's most impressive natural wonders. Formed by a prehistoric landslide, the gorge stretches between Ilanz and Reichenau with its white rock faces up to 400 metres high. You can discover the spectacular landscape on hiking trails, mountain bike routes or a leisurely train ride on the Rhaetian Railway. Kayaking and rafting tours on the Rhine are particularly popular, as are the numerous viewing platforms that offer breathtaking panoramic views. A perfect excursion destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts!

lake cauma

Lake Cauma impresses with its turquoise-blue water and idyllic location in the middle of a fragrant larch and Swiss stone pine forest. In summer, the lake is ideal for swimming, stand-up paddling or simply relaxing on the sandy beach. A particularly beautiful walk leads from Flims Waldhaus to the Conn viewpoint, which offers a breathtaking view of the Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta). The approximately 4-kilometre-long, easy hiking trail runs through the shady Flims forest and passes other small lakes along the way. Once you arrive in Conn, it's worth taking a break at the Conn restaurant, which is known for its fine cuisine and famous ‘Rahmfladen’. If you like, you can use the nostalgic horse-drawn carriage service on the way back.

Trutg dil flem

The excellent Flims Water Trail takes you from the source of the Flem stream in the upper Segnesboden through impressive gorge landscapes down to the centre of Flims. On this hike, you will experience the most beautiful aspects of water hiking in Switzerland. You will cross seven masterfully built bridges designed by renowned Graubünden engineer Jürg Conzett, from where you can admire the unique rock formations in the Flem gorges and listen to the rushing of the mountain stream. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, follow the Trutg dil Flem down into the valley, while more ambitious hikers can take the ascent in the opposite direction.

rock carvings in carschenna

The greatest secret of the area around the Viamala Gorge is undoubtedly the petroglyphs of Carschenna, where eleven rock slabs are covered in drawings. Despite its small size, this site is one of the most important of its kind. The figures, symbols, signs and lines, the bowls, circles and spirals cannot be dated or interpreted.

church of zillis

The church of Zillis, officially St Martin's Church, is a true jewel of Romanesque architecture and an important cultural heritage site in Graubünden. The church is particularly famous for its fantastic ceiling frescoes, which date back to the 12th century and are one of the most important medieval paintings in Switzerland. The impressive fresco depicts scenes from the life of Christ as well as biblical stories and is regarded by experts as a masterpiece of medieval art.
